What is UV light?

Ultraviolet light is produced by the sun in different wavelengths. UV-A light consists of long waves (from 315 to 400 nanometers) and is known for accelerating the skin aging process. This light is present all year round and 95% of it reaches the Earth.

UV-B light consists of medium-length waves (from 280 to 315 nanometers) and causes the tan color in summer. This light is mainly present in spring and summer (in Europe) and only 5% reaches the Earth. The rest is absorbed by the ozone layer.

UV-C light consists of short wavelengths (between 200 and 280 nanometers) and is harmful to humans because it destroys cells. This light does not reach the Earth because it is completely absorbed by the ozone layer.

UV lamps have different properties, where the type of UV light determines the application. Lamps that produce UV-A or UV-B light are mainly used for insect control, micro organism detection, swap and cleaning inspection, chemical processes, etc. With UV-C lamps, also known as disinfection lamps, surfaces/products, water, and air can be efficiently, thoroughly, and chemical-free disinfected.

AXO Filtertechniek UV water purification uses UV-C LED lamps that are highly energy-efficient and have a lifespan of up to 10,000 hours! Would you like personal advice or more information? Please feel free to contact us.

Water purification with UV light

Ultraviolet water purification is the most effective method for disinfecting bacteria from water. UV rays penetrate harmful pathogens in the water and destroy disease-causing micro organisms by disrupting their genetic core (DNA). In this way, their ability to reproduce is eliminated in an extremely effective manner.

Disinfecting water with ultraviolet light is exceptionally simple, effective, and environmentally friendly. UV systems destroy 99.99% of harmful micro organisms without adding chemicals or changing the taste or smell of the water.
UV light is a natural process and produces no harmful chemicals in water. It is a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly disinfection method that is used worldwide for residential and industrial applications.

Ultraviolet purification alone is not sufficient to purify water into drinking water. UV radiation is only effective for treating bacteria and viruses. UV light does not remove contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds. UV systems are therefore often combined with reverse osmosis systems to provide a complete purification process for the safest drinking water.

Integrate UV water disinfection into your processes and products

With the PearlAqua Micro we introduce one of the most compact UV systems in the world. The Micro platform is designed for integration in the tightest spaces. It enables the application of UV technology in almost all conceivable products and treatment processes that were never thought possible. Download our brochure for more information.

UV water disinfection advantages

  • Chemical-free; UV disinfection uses no chemicals such as chlorine and leaves no harmful by-products behind
  • Taste- and odor-free; UV adds no chemical taste or odor to the water
  • Extremely effective; one of the most effective ways to kill disease-causing microbes by destroying 99.99%
  • By deactivating the DNA structure, disease-causing microbes cannot develop resistance
  • Maintenance is limited to replacing the UV lamp
  • Low energy consumption
