Why use centrifugal filters?
Centrifugal filters like drum centrifuges are filtration systems that separate solids from liquids without the need to replace any filter elements.
Depending on the density, solids from 2 microns can be captured by centrifugal force. This makes it possible, among other things, to efficiently remove paint sludge and prevent clogging of spray heads and spray nozzles. Centrifuges are highly suitable for cleaning process fluids in operations where surface quality plays a major role.
Centrifuges operate based on centrifugal force. Process fluids are pumped into a rotating drum where particles heavier than the liquid are pressed against the wall of the drum by centrifugal force. The cleaned liquid exits the drum, and the solids are removed from the drum either manually or fully automatically.
Separating solids from liquids is a 2-stage separation process, but a 3-stage separation is also possible. In a 3-stage separation, not only solids are separated, but also liquids with different viscosities. In the machining industry, this makes it possible to clean coolants not only from swarf and chips, but also from tramp oil.
AXO Filtertechniek offers various types of centrifuges; full or semi automatic, as a centralized system or mobile unit and with 2- or 3-stage separation. If you would like personal advice or more information, please contact us.
Keep metal working coolants clean
Drum centrifuges are designed to clean contaminated liquids and offer both technical and economic advantages. Especially for metalworking fluids from which chips, as well as tramp oils, can be removed. This significantly improves the quality of metalworking fluids.
Metalworking fluids such as coolants provide lubrication for the tool, dissipate heat, and protect against corrosion. Poor maintenance is one of the main causes of reduced coolant quality, as well as a contributing factor to tool wear, product rejection, reduced machine tolerances, and consequently higher costs.
Over time, tramp oil forms a contaminating layer on the coolant surface area. This airtight layer becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, which are then spread through the air. This can cause allergic reactions and is also a source of unpleasant odors. It is important to remove this contaminating layer in an efficient and professional manner. If this layer is not continuously removed, the coolant must be replaced more frequently, resulting in significant long-term costs.
For optimal cleaning of metalworking fluids, oil skimmers and oil separators are also used and can be combined with belt filters.
